Mouse without Borders

Mouse without Borders is a program created in The Garage at Microsoft by Truong Do, a developer for Microsoft Dynamics.  The software allows you to use one keyboard and mouse across your PC's as if they were one desktop.  You can control up to four computers with a single mouse and keyboard with Mouse without Borders.

Features

  • Control up to four (4) computers
  • Move or copy files between computers by dragging from one desktop to another
  • Lock or log in to all PCs from one PC
  • Personalize Logon Screen
  • Get/Send Screen Capture

Installation

Install Mouse Without Borders on the first PC:

At this screen, click No:

You will be presented with a Security Code:

Now follow the same installation instructions on the second PC, but this time click Yes to acknowledge installation on another computer and fill in the Security Code information from the first computer.

The two computers will be linked!

Uninstalling Mouse Without Borders

This update is to add information should you wish to uninstall Mouse Without Borders.  You can uninstall Mouse Without Borders as you would any other program through Control Panel.  However, if you cannot locate it, that is because you are looking in the wrong place!  Scroll further down further and you will find it under Windows Garage.

In the event you are still having problems removing it, run the following command as an Admin:

msiexec /uninstall {D3BC954F-D661-474C-B367-30EB6E56542E}

I recommend exiting the program prior to uninstalling.

Mouse without Borders
How do you remove it?

You can uninstall Mouse Without Borders as you would any other program through Control Panel.

In the event that does not work, run the following command as an Admin:

msiexec /uninstall {D3BC954F-D661-474C-B367-30EB6E56542E}

I would recommend disabling it prior to uninstalling.

I am able to remove MWB just fine, but the reason that I'm doing it is so I can reinstall and go through the wizard again, unfortunately when I reinstall it it picks up the settings from the previous setup.

See if this works:

First, exit Mouse Without Borders. Then run the following command, as Admin:

msiexec /uninstall {D3BC954F-D661-474C-B367-30EB6E56542E}

Restart the computer and reinstall.

it will not uninstall either through Control Panel or running the command script as admin....what next?

Hi, Dave.

I found a suggestion posted by someone at the support site that may work for you:

1. Shut down desktop
2. Start up laptop, stop the service MWB
3. Uninstall MWB from Laptop
4. Start up desktop, stop the MWB service
5. Uninstall MWB from desktop

If you are still unsuccessful, I suggest you seek assistance from the Mouse without Borders Customer Community.

This will not install on a Win7 64 bit machine with SP1 and leaves no logs in event viewer. Setup is standard with no AV.

Any suggestions?

A computer that has MWB on it (WinXP SP3) is no longer hooked up to our network and now it does not respond to a regular USB keyboard or mouse. Is there any way, through setup or boot options, to get to a place where I can uninstall it and use this computer again? I'm going to try an ubuntu rescue CD, I guess, unless there is some easier way. Thanks for any info!

Ok, it works fine, but is here a way todisable it at startup? I tried via msconfig but it won't apear anywhere..

Sorry, Chris, no suggestions other than you should be running an antivirus program.

Hi,Hoyameb. You may want to try a different keyboard or USB port. You may have success in Safe Mode, running the following command, as Admin: msiexec /uninstall {D3BC954F-D661-474C-B367-30EB6E56542E}

Anonymous, with WinPatrol, you could add it to delayed start. Instructions here: Delayed Start

Big problem... Mouse without Borders Service stops. If I restart the service, it stops again after a second or so.

Something is preventing the Service from staying loaded and running.

Any ideas???

Thanks!

For those of you seeking a solution for failed installation... using `msiexec /i [msi file] /l* logfile.out`, it's clear that the firewall service must be started in order to perform the installation.
